Namibia offers a vast variety of angling for the serious surf angler, with species ranging from Cob and many different edible species being caught regularly. For the serious sport angler, five (5) different species of big shark can be caught at most of the fishing holes along the shoreline. Popular species are kabeljou, galjoen, blacktail, steenbras, geelbek and white stumpnose. The main angling season is from November to March, and as these are also the hottest months in the interior, Namibians depart in large numbers to the coast to enjoy the cool climate created by the Atlantic's cold Benguela Current. What is, perhaps surprising, is that the beaches are not crowded despite the fact that thousands of anglers flock to the coast during the holiday seasons. This is because Namibia is a large country with a lot of coastline, but a very small population.Namibia has a variety of dams in the interior that offer several options for those wishing to try their hand at various types of freshwater angling. Moreover, at the far eastern tip of the Caprivi Strip, at the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers, there is some terrific opportunities for fly-fishing.
